Electronic signature capture is a technology for signing electronic document files with a handwritten signature. The use of this technology allows for the elimination of the mailing, storage, filing, copying, and retrieval of paper documents. This will save your business time and money.
In companies and organizations which process a large number of signed paper contracts and forms, digital signature capture can save millions of dollars per year in overhead costs. For example, the savings in an insurance company with 1,000 field agents can be on the order of $25 million dollars per year compared with the cost of using paper documents. The return on investment in your Topaz® pads is in the thousands of percent return.
In addition to savings in overhead costs, digital signature technology speeds business processes and improves productivity. When used with the Internet or an intranet, all of the documents and contracts that an organization uses, including customer and vendor contracts, service contracts, and human resource documents, can be made available anywhere, anytime, electronically. Today's business world revolves around instant access to information. Electronic digital signature capture allows that same instant access to legal, robust signed documents, contracts, and receipts.

There are two basic categories of Topaz signature pads: SigLite® and SignatureGem®. They are rugged, durable, and portable but also reliable and long-lasting with high-performance electromagnetic pen and sensor technology. What different signature pad connection types does Topaz offer?
  • HSB: These signature pads plug into the computer’s USB port and run over a HID interface.
  • HSX/BHSX: These high-performance USB signature pads plug into the computer’s USB port, run over a HID interface, and are ideal for remote environments with USB redirection.
  • BHSB: These signature pads can utilize either a USB or serial connection. USB cables are included with the pad for USB mode, while a serial cable kit must be purchased for use in serial mode. Only one mode can be used at a time. For instructions on connecting the serial cable kit, see the “Connection Instructions” section of the Serial Cable Kit Guide.
  • BSB/BBSB: These signature pads plug into a USB port, but run a “Virtual Serial” interface. They are ideal for remote environments with either USB redirection or COM port forwarding.
  • B: These signature pads plug straight into a serial port. If the “B” pad has an LCD, the signature pad requires an additional y-cable splitter to draw more power to the pad, so that the pad functions properly. This is included with your initial signature pad purchase. The single end of the splitter cable is plugged into the serial connector on the signature pad; the double end of the splitter cable is plugged into a serial COM port on the computer, as well as into a USB port.
  • BT: These signature pads connect via Bluetooth. For set-up instructions, see the Topaz Bluetooth Pairing Guide.
  • WF: These signature pads connect via Wi-Fi. For set-up instructions, see the Topaz Wi-Fi Connection Guide.

If the pen is forced open, it will be virtually impossible to re-assemble without special factory tools. Please note that not all pen models have a removable pen tip.

I updated Chrome, and SigWeb no longer captures signatures.
Topaz Signature Pad Software For Mac
Chrome Version 57 or higher should use SigWeb Version 1.5 or higher. To set-up, follow these steps:
  • In your list of Services (Start - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services), locate the 'Topaz SigWeb Tablet Service', and stop it.
  • Under Programs and Features (Start - Control Panel - Programs and Features), right-click on 'SigWeb' and choose 'Uninstall'. Allow the uninstall to complete.
  • If you also locate 'Topaz SigWeb Tablet' in the list under Programs and Features (you may or may not find it listed), please uninstall it as well.
  • Once done, look on the back of your signature pad to find your model number. Then, follow the SigWeb Installation Steps (this is critical to successful installation).
When I sign in Chrome using SigWeb, I do not see the signature as I am signing. However, I do see the signature in other browsers.
As you sign, SigWeb draws the signature into the canvas signing area in real time. Unlike other browsers, Chrome saves temporary files associated with this process on your computer. Chrome deletes these temporary files when the browser closes normally. In rare cases, when Chrome does not close normally, the files may not be deleted properly. Delete the temporary files left by Chrome from the following folder: WindowsUsers%UserName%AppDataLocalTemp. After the files have been deleted, update your web server to use the latest version of SigWebTablet.js to mitigate this.
When I sign using SigWeb in IE11, I don't see the signature in the signature box, but after signing and clicking 'Done', the data is provided. How can IE11 be set to show the signature when signing?
In Internet Explorer 11, navigate to 'Tools'-'Internet Options'-'General'-'Browser History'-'Settings'. Change this to read 'Every time I visit the web page'.
After installation, where are pDoc Signer and pDoc Forms Designer located on my computer?
After installation, pDoc Signer and pDoc Forms Designer are located in the folder C:Program Files (x86)pDoc Signer. pDoc Forms Designer is included with the pDoc Signer download. pDoc Signer creates a shortcut on the desktop; you can create one for pDoc Forms Designer after installation.
I receive a message regarding the SHA1 algorithm in Adobe Acrobat when signing using the Topaz GemSignPlus plug-in. How do I resolve this?
In keeping with Adobe's base requirements for Acrobat plug-ins, Topaz has included a certificate (SHA1-type) in the GemSignPlus plug-in for years. However, Topaz does not use this certificate to sign the document as may be the case with other systems. Instead, the Topaz GemSignPlus Adobe Acrobat Plug-In has always utilized the biometric signature data captured via a Topaz signature pad and other patented Topaz techniques in place of the SHA-1 certificate to sign the PDF.
You can dismiss this stock message and check the box 'Don't show again' when the window appears, as it does not apply to Topaz signatures for the reasons listed above. You can then proceed with the normal signing process.
The plug-in sizes a signature's display image using its baseline as a reference rather than its top edge. If the cursor is immediately beneath a line of text, the plug-in will adjust its size to fit from the cursor up to the text above - only one line - rather than using any available space below the cursor. To ensure that your signature images are displayed at the proper size, make sure that you leave enough space between the cursor and any page items appearing above it before signing.

In MS Word/Excel, why doesn't my signature appear in the document after signing?
First, verify that a signature was created by clicking on the Validate Sig icon. If a message appears that says 'No Valid Signature in Document', a signature was never created. Make sure that Word is in 'Print Layout' by clicking 'View' and selecting 'Print Layout'. Now, click the Sign Doc icon. 'New' should appear in the signature select box. Sign, name the signature if desired, and click Done.
In MS Word/Excel, why does my signature appear higher than the location where my cursor was placed?
This indicates that the white space normally seen between two pages in a document is hidden. Click on the Office Button or 'File' tab > 'Options' > 'Display', and check the box next to 'Show white space between pages in Print Layout view'. Then, exit out of the 'Options' window and open the 'Sign Doc' window from the 'Add-Ins' tab. Select the affected signature, delete it, and re-sign the document.
How do I place a signature inside a table using MS Word/Excel?
The best way to place a signature inside a table is to first place the cursor somewhere in the document (outside of the table) with plenty of blank space. Go to the 'Add-Ins' tab and click on the 'Sign Doc' icon. Sign, name the signature if desired, and click 'Done'. Then, go to the 'Developer' tab and click on the 'Design Mode' icon. You can now resize the signature field and drag it into an existing table in the document.
Can I use date fields when creating Word documents or Excel spreadsheets?
Do not use date fields when creating documents or spreadsheets. Date fields can auto-update when the document or spreadsheet is opened. This will cause any signatures within the document or spreadsheet to become invalid. To avoid inadvertently invalidating signatures, it is best to manually enter dates into a document or spreadsheet.
Can I send a signed Word document or Excel spreadsheet to someone else?

In MS Word/Excel, why doesn't the Signature Select in the Sign Doc window say 'New?'

Topaz Signature Pad Software For Mac Computers

This could mean that you're not in Print Layout. Close the 'Sign Doc' window and go to 'View' > 'Print Layout'. Then, try clicking 'Sign Doc' again. If the Signature Select still doesn't list 'New' at the top, one of the signature fields in the document is currently highlighted. Close the 'Sign Doc' window and place your cursor somewhere else in the document. When you see your blinking cursor, click the 'Sign Doc' button and the Signature Select will default to 'New.'
